Singing in the St. Petri Church

In 2004 and 2005 I sang in the Lutheran parish church of St. Petri in Dortmund. This church, which is in the immediate vicinity of the central station, is the venue for many alternative spiritual events and services. On each occasion during the daytime I led a singing workshop in the Rheinoldinum, and in the evening 3 other musicians and I organized a sing-along concert in the Petri church. The co-organizers were Konny Kunzmann (guitar, vocals), Susanne Strobel (percussion) and Anita Holtmann (overtone singing).

Each time the workshop choirs consisted of 80 – 100 singers. And in the evenings hundreds of visitors came to the concerts.

In 2004 the women priests Barbara von Bremen and Almut Begemann created a labyrinth made of sandstone in the church (at the moment it is not yet possible to install a permanent labyrinth in the floor). We sang at the labyrinth. At the end of the evening we walked in a pilgrim’s procession through the labyrinth singing the song “Im gehen der Spirale” (Walking the Spiral) by A.Heyden.

It was an inspiring concert with strong light energy, which has had long-lasting reverberations!
